런던 보이스는 자마이카 태생의 [Edem Ephraim(에이덤 에프라임)]과
그의 친구인 영국인 [Dennis Fuller(드니스 풀러)]로 구성된 남성 2인조 듀오
댄스그룹이며 둘 모두 1959년 생 동갑내기들이다. [Roxy Rollers(록시 롤러스)]라는
댄싱팀으로 활동하다가 1987년 싱글 [I'm Gonna Give my Heart]로 데뷔했다. 스타일은
여타 유로 댄스 팀들처럼 신시사이저나 미디 사운드를 활용한 분절적인 리듬과 멜로디를 강조한
보컬이 포함된 댄스 음악이었다. 조금 다른 점이 있었다면 흑인인 에이덤 에프라임의 소울 풀한 목소리
톤에 있었는데 다른 유로 댄스 그룹과 비교해서 그렇다는 것이지 일반적인 블랙 뮤직과는 상관없는
음악이었다. 싱글에 이어진 1988년의 데뷔 앨범 [[Twelve Commandments In Dance]]에서
수많은 히트곡을 양산해 냈는데, 영국 차트에서 [London Boys]가 2위, [Requiem]이 4위,
[Harlem Desire]가 17위에 연달아 등장하면서 세계적인 명성을 얻었다. 비록 미국시장에
진출하지는 못했지만 영국과 유럽, 그리고 유독 아시아에서 대대적인 히트를 기록했다.
많은 히트곡들이 수록된 데뷔 앨범에서 이 밖에도 [Dance Dance Dance]와
[My Love], [The Midi Dance]등이 사랑 받았으며, 영국 차트에서만
플래티넘을 획득한다. 아시아의 인기는 정말이지 대단했다.
한국뿐만 아니라 일본, 대만 등지에서도 공통적인 현상이었다.
당시 집계로만 450만장 이상의 판매고라고하니 어마어마한 숫자다.
그러나 댄스 음악의 수명은 짧을 수 밖에 없다. 그렇게 폭발적인 80년대
후반을 장식한 런던 보이스이지만 음악 인생이 그리 길지는 못했다. 1991년에
두 번재 앨범 [[Sweet Soul Music]]가 발표되었지만 예전 같은 영화는 누리지 못했다.
전작의 영향도 있었겠지만 댄스음악의 흐름이 더 이상 분절된 비트를 강조하는 유로 댄스음악에서
멀어지고 있었기 때문이었다. 1993에는 세 번째 앨범 [[Love 4 Unity]]를 내놓았고, 1995년에는
음악적 방향의 변화를 시도한 앨범 [[Hallelujah Hits]]를 발표했지만 결과는 마찬가지였다.
팀의 부진은 그럴수있는 일이었지만 비극은 다른곳에서 일어났다. 친구 사이였던
에이덤 에프레인과 드니스 플러는 다른 친구들과 1996년 알프스 여행을 떠났고
여행지에서 자동차 사고를 당해 생을 마감하고 말았던 것이다.
