If You Go Away / Oscar Benton

소위 베네룩스 블루스 무대 (Benelux Blues Sence)에서 중요한 위치를 점하고 있는 네덜란드 출신의 만도린과 바이올린에 능한 블루스 주자 오스카 벤튼. 1967년에 Oscar Benton Blues Band 조직 68년 데뷔앨범 'Feel so Good'을 발표하여 크게 희트 이후 솔로로 전향한 후 몇몇 솔로가수와 합작 앨범을 발표 하기도했다. 오스카 벤톤 이름이 크게 알려지기 시작한 동기는 1987년에 프랑스 영화배우 알랑드롱이 벤튼의 곡' Bentonhurtst Blues'를 그의 영화 "Pour la Peau d'Un Flic"에 삽입하면서 부터다. 음유시인 쟈크 브렐 (Jackques Brel. 벨기에)이 1959년에 작사 작곡하여 부른 떠나가는 여인을 잡으려는 애절한 마음을 담은 20세기 프랑스 최고의 샹송으로 여겨지고 있는 곡이다. 이후 미국의 시인 Rod Mckun이 영어로 번역된 'If You Go Away' 는 파퓰러 송으로 수 많은 가수에 의해 불리워졌으며 베튼의 멋스럼이 더해져서 리메이크 되었다.       If you go away on this summer day Then you might as well Take the sun away All the birds that flew In the summer sky And our love was new And our hearts were high When the day was young And the night was long And the moon stood still For the night bird song If you go away, if you go away, if you go away But if you stay I'll make you a day Like no day has ever been Or will be again We'll sail on the sun We'll ride on the rain We'll talk to the trees And worship the wind And if you goI'll understand Leave me just enough love To hold in my hand If you go away, if you go away, if you go away If you go away As I know you will You must tell the world to stop turning Till you return to me If you ever do, Oh what good is love without loving you?
